David Wirth has made it his life’s work to fight for the rights of those who cannot defend themselves and to navigate England’s choppy legal waters for fellow members of The Brotherhood. Tracking down the three villainous noblemen, including a powerful duke, who have masterminded a child kidnapping ring promises to be the pinnacle of his career seeking justice for the helpless.

If his heart doesn’t get in the way and ruin everything.

Lionel Mercer has spent years collecting the juiciest secrets of England’s high and mighty. Secrets he can now use to hunt the men who have destroyed the lives of so many. But Lionel is hiding secrets of his own—secrets that he’s shared with no one, not even his business partner and closest friend, David.

But not all secrets can be kept forever.

When David and Lionel are forced to seek help in capturing the kidnapping ringleaders by turning to David’s former partner, John Dandie, painful truths that both men have kept hidden are laid bare. Will David and Lionel get a second chance at love, or will their resentments boil over and drive them apart forever?

Book Review

“Love is beyond sex and physical touch. Love is kind words, a reassuring smile, one that is not jealous, and keeps record of wrong doings. Love is knowing without a shadow of a doubt that you will always be there for that person and they will always be there for you.” ~ unknown

David Wirth, of ‘Just a Little Seduction’ by Merry Farmer, has always put his work over his personal life. He is a great lawyer who goes the extra mile and more for his clients. When he is defending a client, virtually nothing else exists. For the past five years, he has had an ever-growing focus of a very personal nature directed at his employee and friend, Lionel Mercer.

David and Lionel work together very smoothly, blending David’s outstanding expertise in law and Lionel’s sleuthing skills, enhanced by his questionable yet indispensable contacts from his past. Although David has always strived for professionalism in their relationship, it is getting more difficult to do so. His feelings for Lionel have grown to the point that he can hardly stand being near him. Yet David is afraid to let Lionel know for fear of ruining their partnership and, even worse, losing Lionel’s friendship. More than once, he has wondered if Lionel feels the same. Lionel’s incessant flirting and innuendos are driving David to distraction.

Lionel’s feelings have been growing stronger for David, but he dare not tell him or cross the line from flirting to actually doing something about it. Every time he feels as if he can’t stand it another moment, he reminds himself of why nothing can ever happen He has a secret that he can’t share with David, or anyone else for that matter. So he suffers in silence, desperately wanting David, but knowing that he can’t have him. The tension between the two men grows to a point that borders on animosity. It’s a dangerous path to go down, but Lionel would rather have David think he doesn’t care rather than know the truth. However, when they are out of town on a case, David decides it is time to try to seduce Lionel. At first Lionel gives in, but eventually, he has to tell David that he is sick. Instead of being repulsed, David reacts with care and concern. He tries to reassure Lionel that having a loving relationship with him is what is of the utmost importance and that sex, although nice, is secondary.

This is one of the most emotional stories in the ‘Brotherhood’ series so far. It was great to see the ever serious and dedicated David let his hair down for the man he’d grown to love more than anything else. Lionel loved and needed David, but was so afraid of his secret that he didn’t think it was possible. Fortunately, David convinced him otherwise in a most spectacular way. Thanks, Merry, I’m looking forward to book five.
