His brother vanished into the shadows. Taken or possessed?

Alex can see ghosts and demons. It’s not a gift he asked for, but recent events have made his abilities impossible to deny. When his brother Lukas goes missing, walking off camera in the middle of a ghost hunting video, Alex fears the worst.

As Alex searches for Lukas, a long list of secrets, lies, and omissions come to light. Including Lukas’s recent departure from the police force and the death of a fellow cop.

Alex has to face what he can see, the ghosts, and maybe even a demon or two, if he wants his brother back. But he’s afraid once he lets the shadows in, they may take over and never leave.

Book Review

“Loss and possession, death and life are one. There falls no shadow where there shines no sun.” ~Hilaire Belloc

Lately, Alex and Micah, of ‘Possessed by Shadows’ by Lissa Kasey, are doing well. Their supernatural happenings are still there but are less frequent and more manageable until Alex’s twin brother, Lucas, disappears. To find him, Alex is going to have to face his greatest fears.

Alex and Lucas have a strained relationship partly caused by their parents, who have always favored Lucas, whom they consider the sensible, stable of the two. Recently Lucas has left his job as a police detective and has become a ghost hunter. Alex and Lucas are puzzled because, for years, Lucas has doubted Alex’s paranormal experiences. Alex can’t figure out whether Lucas is trying to prove him wrong or right.

While ghost hunting on one of Lucas’s projects, Alex ends up in a mental ward, catatonic for days. Once he is lucid, Lucas convinces the doctor not to put Alex on medication but release him to his care. Lucas’s puzzling behavior continues. When he doesn’t show up for work, Alex tries frantically to get hold of him. Finally, Lucas calls and tells him he is scouting his team’s next project inside an abandoned schoolhouse. Lucas promises to call back in a few days. When Lucas doesn’t call back at the assigned time, Alex and Micah go looking for him at the school. They find his car and one of his cameras, but no Lucas. Someone calls the police and they almost get arrested. When Alex explains that he is looking for his brother, the cops aren’t surprised Lucas is missing because he has “gone off the rails” before.

‘Possessed by Shadows’ is full of revelations about Lucas that both surprise and anger Alex. Yet, he loves Lucas and does anything he can to save him, even if he needs to lose himself in the process. Lucas’s struggles were unexpected and unfortunate, yet they opened the door to a better relationship between him and his brother. Thanks, Lissa, for another brilliant addition to the ‘Simply Crafty’ series.
